SUSTAINABILITY AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Seda Hotels maintains a strong commitment to balancing its responsibilities to stakeholders with initiatives that positively impact society and the environment. This commitment is evident from the design of our buildings to the day-to-day operations of our hotels.

Our hotel group, as part of AyalaLand Hotels and Resorts Corp (AHRC), signed an agreement with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) signifying our commitment to achieve EDGE Zero Carbon certification for 2,826 rooms in our hotel portfolio by 2026, a first for a hotel group in the Philippines.

EDGE Zero Carbon is a globally recognized net zero building certification and the highest of three levels of certification for EDGE, which stands for Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies. An innovation of IFC, EDGE is a green building certification system that promotes resource-efficient, low-carbon buildings, requiring a 20 percent improvement for each of energy use, water use, and embodied carbon in materials compared to base case. EDGE Zero Carbon goes further, requiring 40 percent savings on energy use via onsite measures, and that the buildings must be carbon neutral, through renewable energy, carbon offsets, or a combination of both.

Seda Hotels has obtained its energy from renewable sources since 2021. The agreement with IFC is a further testament to our advocacy of sustainable tourism.

Sustainable Building Design

Sustainability is a key priority in the design and construction of our properties. We utilize energy-efficient building materials, maximize the use of natural light, incorporate renewable energy sources, and implement water conservation measures to minimize our environmental footprint.

Environmentally-Friendly Operations

Beyond the construction phase, we continue to prioritize environmental stewardship in the ongoing operations of our hotels. We do this through:

  • Robust recycling and waste management programs to minimize waste sent to landfills
  • Utilization of smart building automation systems to optimize energy consumption and reduce waste
  • Sourcing products and services such as sustainable materials and eco-friendly cleaning products
  • Reduction of single-use plastics in favor of reusable alternatives
  • Use of organic contents in bathroom amenities

Commitment to Social Responsibility

In addition to environmental initiatives, Seda Hotels affirms its commitment to social responsibility. We engage with local communities and support charitable organizations and initiatives that address social issues, including programs that provide employment opportunities and support education and skills development.

Seda Hotels has also begun its transition to sourcing cage-free eggs, or eggs from hens raised in housing systems that allow them to move more freely. These hens enjoy a better quality of life compared to those kept in cages. By using cage-free eggs, Seda Hotels reiterates its commitment to sustainability and animal welfare, offering the best experience for guests who are assured that dishes served come from animals treated with care and respect. We are working to transition to serving 100% cage free eggs in our hotels and resorts by 2035.

In addition, Seda Hotels is committed to the conservation of the Philippine Eagle, the largest eagle in the world and the country's national bird. This majestic species is critically endangered, and we are dedicated to supporting conservation efforts to ensure its survival. Our contribution includes adopting one of the birds at the Philippine Eagle Foundation, providing support for its care, and helping to protect its habitat. We call her Mayumi -- she is expected to produce offspring that will help ensure the existence of their species for generations to come.

By maintaining a balance between stakeholder responsibilities and social/environmental initiatives, Seda Hotels contributes to a more environmentally conscious future and creating a better world for everyone we serve.
